No. You do not need prior business sales or M&A experience to become a First Choice Business Brokers franchise owner. FCBB provides comprehensive training in business brokerage, valuation and business sales, supported by proven systems, technology, tools, and ongoing support.
FCBB franchise owners come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including business ownership, executive leadership, accounting and finance, real estate, sales, and other professional services. You bring the professional experience you've already built; FCBB provides the business brokerage and M&A training, systems, and support to help you apply those skills in a new way.

How does my experience owning and operating a business translate to business brokerage?
Experience owning and operating a business can provide a powerful foundation for becoming a First Choice Business Brokers franchise owner. You already understand what it means to build a company, manage employees, serve customers, make financial decisions, solve problems, take risks, and be responsible for the success of an organization. You can look another business owner in the eye and have a candid, real-world conversation about what it means to own and operate a business.
That experience can be especially valuable in business brokerage because you understand the business owner's perspective. For many sellers, their company represents years—or decades—of work, financial investment, relationships, and personal sacrifice. Having been an owner yourself can help you understand both the financial and emotional considerations involved when someone decides it is time to sell.
You also bring something that can't be taught in a classroom: the perspective that comes from actually owning and operating a business. FCBB builds on that experience by providing the specialized business brokerage and M&A training, systems, technology, marketing, and ongoing support you need to apply it to the business sales industry.
You've already learned what it takes to build a business. With FCBB, you can use that experience to help other owners transition theirs—while building your next business.
-
Do I need previous business brokerage, M&A, or sales experience to own an FCBB franchise?
No. Previous business brokerage, M&A, or traditional sales experience is not required to become a First Choice Business Brokers franchise owner. As an entrepreneur, you already bring something extremely valuable: firsthand experience owning, operating, and making decisions within a business. FCBB teaches you how to apply that experience to the business of selling businesses.
Training begins with First Choice University (FCU), which combines online learning with live, interactive instructor-led webinars. You'll learn the fundamentals of business brokerage, including business valuation, business development and sales, securing listings, working with buyers and sellers, confidential marketing, negotiations, due diligence, and managing transactions through closing.
Business brokerage does involve sales, but it is largely a consultative, relationship-driven process. If you've built a business, you've likely already sold ideas, developed customer and professional relationships, negotiated agreements, solved problems, and earned people's trust—even if you've never considered yourself a salesperson.
That training is reinforced by ongoing continuing education, coaching, established systems and technology, a dedicated Franchise Success Coach, and specialized resources for deal structure and transaction strategy.
You already know what it means to own a business. FCBB provides the business brokerage, M&A, business development, and sales training, systems, and support to help you turn that experience into your next business.
-
Can I use my existing business relationships and network to help build my brokerage?
Yes. The relationships you've developed as a business owner can provide a valuable foundation and help accelerate the development of your business brokerage. Entrepreneurs often build extensive networks of other business owners, customers, vendors, bankers, lenders, CPAs, attorneys, wealth advisors, industry professionals, and community leaders.
Those relationships can be particularly valuable in business brokerage because business owners tend to know other business owners. Your network may include people who are beginning to think about retirement, succession, valuation, acquiring another company, or eventually selling their business—as well as professional advisors who regularly encounter owners facing those decisions.
Business brokerage is highly relationship-driven. Your existing connections can help you establish referral relationships, expand your local market presence, and open conversations within a business community where you've already spent years building credibility.
FCBB provides the marketing resources, technology, systems, training, and business development tools to help you build upon those relationships while continuing to expand your reach.
The relationships you built while owning your previous business don't have to stay with that business. They can become part of the foundation for the next one you build.
-
Can I build a business brokerage that doesn’t depend entirely on me?
Yes. In fact, the First Choice Business Brokers franchise model is designed to help you build and scale a business brokerage office—not simply create another business that depends entirely on the owner.
As a franchise owner, you can participate directly in business sale transactions while also developing a commission-based team of trained business brokers. As your team grows, you can increase the transaction capacity of your office, serve more buyers and sellers, and build a stronger presence in your local market.
FCBB provides foundational business brokerage training for the brokers you add to your team, along with established systems, technology, marketing resources, ongoing education, and corporate support. You provide the local leadership, mentorship, and accountability needed to develop your team and grow the operation.
For experienced entrepreneurs, that distinction can be important. The objective isn't simply to create another job for yourself. It's to build an established brokerage office—with a team, systems, relationships, transaction activity, and market presence—that can become a valuable business asset of its own.

What is the demand for business brokers in today’s market?
For millions of business owners, the company they spent years building will eventually need a next owner. As Baby Boomer entrepreneurs reach retirement, privately held businesses across the country are approaching a critical transition—creating a substantial need for trained business brokers who can help owners turn years of work into a successful business sale and transition.
The numbers illustrate the scale. 52.3% of U.S. business owners are age 55 or older, according to a LendingTree analysis using U.S. Census Bureau Annual Business Survey data. McKinsey estimates that by 2035, approximately 6 million small and midsize businesses will face ownership transitions, with more than 1 million viable candidates for sale representing up to $5 trillion in enterprise value.
For an experienced entrepreneur, those aren't simply statistics. You know what it takes to build a business from the inside—and how deeply personal that business can become. For many owners, their company represents years or even decades of hard work, risk, sacrifice, relationships, employees who have depended on them, and a significant part of their family's financial future. When the time comes to sell, they aren't simply selling an asset. They may be letting go of something that has been a major part of their identity and their life's work, while also trying to protect the value they have spent years creating.
That owner-to-owner perspective can be valuable in business brokerage. Sellers need more than someone who can find a buyer. They need a trained business broker who can understand the business, establish value, maintain confidentiality, prepare it for market, qualify buyers, navigate negotiations and due diligence, and help manage the transaction through closing.
You've experienced what it means to build a business. Business brokerage gives you the opportunity to use that experience to help another owner successfully transition theirs.
Business brokers stand at the intersection of legacy and opportunity—helping owners transition the businesses and value they have built while helping buyers pursue the opportunities ahead.

Why might business brokerage be a compelling next business for an experienced entrepreneur?
For entrepreneurs who have already built and operated a business, business brokerage offers the opportunity to put that experience to work in a new way—helping other owners navigate the sale of their businesses while building a business brokerage of your own.
The FCBB model combines the independence of business ownership with the infrastructure of an established franchise system. Franchise owners have access to more than 30 years of business brokerage experience, specialized training, established systems and processes, technology, marketing resources, ongoing education, and corporate support.
You can participate directly in transactions while also developing a commission-based team of trained business brokers, increasing the transaction capacity of your office and expanding your presence in the local business community. Unlike starting an entirely new concept from the ground up, you're building with an established brand, proven processes, specialized tools, and a national network behind you.
For an experienced entrepreneur, the opportunity isn't simply to generate income from transactions. It's the opportunity to take what you've learned from building businesses and use it to build again—this time developing a brokerage office with a team, systems, relationships, transaction activity, and market presence that can become a valuable business asset of its own.
You've built before. FCBB gives you the opportunity to build what's next.
